How does personal development coaching work?

Coaching is about recognizing that you want to make a change, a real difference, in one or several aspects of your life. Personal Development Coaching, as I practice it, is non-directive. My role is to ask you the key questions that empower you to find your own workable solutions. Big goals are broken down into manageable ‘baby steps’ that you achieve between calls.

Accountability, checking in with your coach what has been achieved, and sometimes what hasn’t, is part of the process, but not its entirety. In addition I may encourage you to move outside your comfort zone, being there to support you 100% of the way as you do so, and congratulating you when you achieve your goals.

What does a typical programme involve?

Firstly, you will be treated as an individual, with the programme and sessions tailored to your unique needs. A typical programme will last for 6 sessions of 45 minutes, with the focus of the initial session being your current position and your goals for the future. Sessions will usually be fortnightly to give you time to make progress on any agreed action points. The majority of clients prefer telephone coaching to minimize disruption to their busy schedules. Face-to-face coaching is possible, depending on location.

At the end of the six sessions we will review the progress you have made. If you feel there is more work you want to do, we can continue to work together as long as we both feel the relationship continues to be of benefit to you.

What type of people have coaching?

Anyone who has a genuine desire to change and achieve results in their life can benefit from coaching.

This may mean working on specific goals that you already have in mind, for example: working on your general health and fitness through improving your diet and exercise, to acting on that business idea you have had in your head for the last 18 months, but never found the time to make happen.

It could also be working with you to identify some specific new goals for you following some change in life; for example, the children leaving home for University, or your move to live in a new country.

Coaching can cover all these things provided there is a genuine commitment on your part to achieve results.

How do I find out more?

If you want to find out more please e-mail me at info@joiedevivrecoaching.com or call (0033) 1 34 93 90 63. I would be delighted to arrange a complimentary 30 minute session to discuss how personal development coaching could be of benefit to you. Any calls from me to a land line, whether in France, the UK or elsewhere in the world, are paid by me.

What if I start being coached and decide it’s not for me?

By the end of the second session, both client and coach will have a good idea of whether the coaching relationship is going to work. If either of us decides by this time that, for whatever reason, we wish to cancel the agreement, I will refund your money in full.
